Overview
This is the final project of a cinematography course at Duke University. The parameters given were that we had to use film or video we shot ourselves, and it had to be five minutes long.

As part of a previous assignment, each student was allotted one roll of 16mm film to film. Because we were processing the film as negatives, we were also provided another roll to make a positive print. Each roll was just two and a half minutes of film, but I was so enamored with the process of shooting and processing the physical media that I set out to use the footage for my final project.

Working with Limitations
To turn two and a half minutes into a five minute film, I used every bit of the footage I could. This meant using both the positive and negative film. I also used "mistakes," like frames where the shutter stopped partially closed, film that developed splotchy, light flares, and a shot of trees I got by accident when moving the camera.
The sound may be the most important part of this piece. The audio is an original composition, created from samples that I stitched together to complement the images and carry the emotion.
